Hon. Edward V. Torack, JSC (Ret.)

EDUCATION & JUDICIAL SERVICE
Judge Edward V. Torack practiced law for over 33 years prior to his appointment to the NJ Superior Court bench in January 1996. He is a 1962 graduate of Fordham University School of Law and obtained his bachelor's degree from Seton Hall University in 1959. In 2003, he was granted a Fordham Law School Distinguished Alumnus Award. He has served in the Bergen Vicinage Family Division since his appointment. He retired from the Bench in August 2008. He has served as Acting Presiding Judge, Family Division, in the Bergen Vicinage. During his tenure, he primarily resolved FM dissolution matters along with pre and post judgment motions. He has been an active participant in the Barry Croland Family Law Inn of Court and the Bergen County Family Bench/Bar Committee. He has mentored many judges prior to and under the Comprehensive Judicial Orientation Program for newly assigned Family Part judges. He served on the faculty at the Annual Judicial College. In February 2024, Judge Torack was granted the Attorney Achievement Award by the Bergen County Bar Foundation, and received a New Jersey Senate and Assembly Joint Legislative Resolution for his meritorious record of leadership and commitment to the legal profession.

MEDIATION TRAINING
Judge Torack has been instrumental in settling thousands of family litigation cases during his tenure as a career Family Judge and in his mediation practice. He has been trained in family mediation skill, having met the requirements set forth in the New Jersey Court Rules. He has been approved by the Joint Credentialing Committee of the Supreme Court CDR Committee and the Supreme Court Practice Committee. He has been placed on court approved mediatior’s rosters in several counties.

LAW PRACTICE
As an attorney, he served on the Supreme Court District IIA Ethics Committee for Bergen County, as a Municipal Court Judge and Municipal Attorney for various municipalities in Bergen County over a period of 33 years. He engaged in general practice, with emphasis on municipal and land use law, family law, real estate, wills, estates, corporate partnerships, and has extensive litigation experience in state courts, federal district courts and bankruptcy courts on the trial and appellate level.
